TO BORDERLANDS EMMAUS COMMUNITY FROM THE LAY DIRECTOR(posted 5/12/07)Grace and peace to each of you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I’m writing to you as Lay Director for Borderlands Emmaus Community, serving for my second year. I haven’t reported to you since the Walks last fall, which, of course, were great successes, and God was glorified. Also, there was a Women’s Chrysalis Journey in January, which was also a blessing. The Board thanks the Lay Directors, - Myles Culbertson, Jackie Sledge and Mindy Archey - and their teams for being God’s hands and feet. It’s time to start thinking about the upcoming Walks, which will be in September at Sacramento Methodist Assembly. Men’s Walk #9 is September 6-9th, with Bill Lamb as Lay Director, and Women’s Walk #10 is September 27-30th, Debbie Lamb, Lay Director. These are the two Walks which were postponed from last summer, and, praise God, most of the teams which had been assembled have agreed to serve this year. The success of any Walk depends on support from Community – and that’s you and me! First and foremost, we must have Pilgrims. That means that we must have sponsors. I know there are people I want to speak to about going on the Walk, and I know there are people you know who would like to go, so please, begin talking to them now, and get the registration forms turned in. Please do not leave it until the last minute. It is so much easier to plan when we’re sure we have a full contingent of Pilgrims. You can get the registrations forms from our website: www.emmausborderlands.org. I cannot stress how important good sponsorship is. You are offering your friend in Christ a gift of a lifetime, the 72 hours they will spend in close connection with God and with fellow believers. Please be in prayer, serious prayer, about WHO to sponsor, and WHY to sponsor. You can also support the Walks by signing up to serve on the Support Teams. You can sign up for the whole weekend or for a day or two. My husband Frank and I are the Support Coordinators for the Men’s Walk, and Bill Lamb will do that task for the Women’s Walk. You can contact me at zdmfhm@aol.com, or 915/581-3051 about either or both Support Teams. Please be there to help with the behind-the-scenes work. It’s a wonderful experience of invisible servanthood. Also, please sign up for the 72 Hour Prayer Vigil. Remember how awesome it is to see all those names on that list on Friday afternoon on the Walk. Your name, and your time in prayer, makes a huge difference. Sign up by contacting Ben & Evaline Gomersall, gomersall@elp.rr.com. Support the Walks by sending table agape – 60 pieces per Walk. Have your Reunion Group or church group begin making it now. And of course, be there for Candlelight and Closing. Your presence could be the one that makes a difference for a Pilgrim. Take out your cross is read what’s on the back…”Christ is counting on you.” Please support Borderlands Walk to Emmaus; it makes a difference in the lives of individuals, of our churches, of our communities, and of the Kingdom.
